Welcome to the University College Community!

Susan J. SchurmanWelcome to the University College Community (UCC) at Rutgers-New Brunswick/Piscataway. We are dedicated to serving the needs of adult and nontraditional students. As Acting Dean of UCC, my job is to help you achieve your educational goals. I know from personal experience the challenges you face as you struggle to succeed in the classroom as well as in your workplace.

I also know the value of successfully completing a college degree, not just in financial terms--though the financial return-on-investment is substantial--but also in terms of personal development. Since you are reading this message, you too believe it is worth the sacrifice.

Our mission at the University College Community is focused on your educational advancement, and the directors and staff at the UCC are here to work for you:

  • First, we offer support programs and services to help you succeed, regardless of your career path.
  • Second, we are your advocate inside the larger Rutgers University community. Our role at UCC is to help Rutgers achieve the goal of serving the lifelong learning needs of New Jersey residents and students who travel here from other states and countries. To that end we will play a leadership role in learning more about your needs and recommending policies and programs to meet them.

The UCC offices are located on the 3rd Floor of Lucy Stone Hall on the Livingston Campus directly above the School of Arts and Sciences office. I recognize that getting to campus for any purpose other than attending classes may be difficult for you, but please stop in to visit when you are able. The Deans door is always open to UCC students. To make it easier to visit campus, we have created a virtual campus on our webpage where you can quickly access all the university support systems and participate as a member of the UC Community from your computer at home or at the office when most convenient for you.

I hope you will consider becoming a member of the University College Community. I will soon be launching my "Deans Blog" providing regular updates on issues of interest to adult and nontraditional students. I look forward to meeting you as we work together to make Rutgers the premier "lifelong learning university" in the nation.

Sincerely,
Susan J. Schurman's Signature
